Dentures (Full & Partial)

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth, restoring function for eating and speaking, as well as supporting facial structure and appearance.

Overview

What you should know

At Footscray Dental Studio, we provide both full dentures, for patients missing all teeth in an arch, and partial dentures, for patients missing some but not all of their natural teeth.

What's Involved

The denture process generally includes:

  1. Consultation and assessment — your dentist examines your mouth and discusses whether full or partial dentures are appropriate for your situation.
  2. Impressions or digital scan — used to capture the precise shape of your mouth and any remaining teeth.
  3. Try-in stage — a trial denture may be fitted to check appearance, fit and bite before the final version is completed.
  4. Fitting — your finished dentures are fitted, with adjustments made as needed for comfort.
  5. Follow-up — further adjustment appointments may be recommended as you adapt to wearing your new dentures.

Types of Dentures

  • Full dentures — replace all teeth in the upper and/or lower jaw, resting on the gums.
  • Partial dentures — replace one or more missing teeth while remaining natural teeth are still present, often attaching to adjacent teeth for stability.

Your dentist will discuss which option is suitable based on your remaining teeth and overall oral health.

Who It's Suitable For

Dentures may be suitable for patients missing some or all of their natural teeth who are looking for a removable solution. For some patients, implant-supported options may also be discussed as an alternative or complement to dentures — your dentist will explain the options relevant to your individual situation.

Caring for Your Dentures

Your dentist will provide specific guidance on cleaning and caring for your dentures, including recommendations around removing them overnight, and will advise on a schedule for check-ups to monitor fit and the health of your gums and any remaining teeth over time.
