What you should know
This approach is designed to provide a fixed, functional alternative to a removable full denture.
What's Involved
All-on-X treatment generally includes:
- Comprehensive consultation and assessment — a detailed discussion of your goals, dental history and general health, along with imaging such as an OPG or CT scan to assess jawbone structure.
- Treatment planning — your dentist develops an individualised plan, which may involve collaboration with a specialist for the surgical stages.
- Implant placement — a small number of implants are strategically positioned across the arch to provide stable support for the full-arch restoration.
- Healing period — time is needed for the implants to integrate with the jawbone (osseointegration), during which a temporary restoration may be worn.
- Final restoration — once healing is complete, a custom-made full-arch restoration is fitted and secured to the implants.
Your dentist will explain the specific staging and expected timeframe for your individual treatment plan during your consultation.
Benefits of All-on-X
- A fixed alternative to a removable full denture, rather than a removable one
- Uses a smaller number of implants to support a full arch, compared with replacing every tooth individually
- Designed to restore function for eating and speaking, along with appearance
- Can help support facial structure by providing stability similar to natural teeth
Who It's Suitable For
All-on-X may be an option for patients missing most or all of their teeth in one or both jaws, including those currently wearing a full denture who are looking for a fixed alternative. Suitability depends on individual factors including bone structure, gum health, and general health, all of which your dentist will assess during a comprehensive consultation. Where bone volume is insufficient, your dentist will discuss what options may be available.

What to Expect During Recovery
As with individual implants, some swelling or discomfort is common following surgical placement, and your dentist will provide guidance on managing this. A healing period is required before your final full-arch restoration is fitted, during which a temporary restoration may be worn to support function and appearance.
